NDIS nutrition support from a local Penrith dietitian

Hi, I'm Dayna. I'm an Accredited Practising Dietitian based near Penrith, and I provide practical NDIS nutrition support across Penrith, Kingswood and nearby Western Sydney suburbs.

I completed a Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Sydney, followed by a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics, and I have been specialising in disability dietetics for more than four years. I bring clinical training, community experience and a down-to-earth approach to nutrition support, so recommendations feel realistic for everyday life.

I work with participants, families, support coordinators, plan managers, carers, SIL homes and group homes to build nutrition plans that can actually be used at home. I consider disability-related support needs, food preferences, culture, budget, cooking skills, routine and the people helping with meals.

  • Personalised meal plans, snack ideas and practical food routines.
  • Support with selective eating, sensory food preferences and mealtime structure.
  • Building skills and confidence with shopping, budgeting, meal planning and meal preparation.
  • Nutrition support for weight, digestion, energy levels, cholesterol and long-term wellbeing.
  • Food allergy, intolerance and gastrointestinal nutrition guidance.
  • Texture-modified diet support, including translating speech pathology recommendations into practical nutrition and meal advice.
  • Nutrition plans and reports that may support NDIS plan reviews and goal tracking.

For general NDIS guidance, see the official NDIS information on nutrition supports.

How nutrition support can connect to NDIS goals

Nutrition therapy is most useful when it connects to your own goals, daily routine and support needs. I can help you work towards goals such as:

  • Improving confidence and independence with food choices, shopping and meal preparation.
  • Building healthy eating habits that are sustainable for you and your support network.
  • Managing weight, digestion, energy levels and longer-term health risks.
  • Improving wellbeing, daily routine and quality of life.
  • Helping SIL homes, group homes, carers and support workers understand how to follow your nutrition plan.
  • Turning clinical recommendations into simple meal ideas, food routines and shopping strategies.
  • Creating practical meal planning and budgeting strategies that fit your home life.

NDIS Dietitian FAQ

Does the NDIS fund dietitian support?

The NDIS may fund disability-related nutrition supports when they meet the NDIS funding criteria. Official NDIS guidance says this may include a dietitian creating or reviewing a disability-related nutrition plan, and training the people who help the participant follow that plan.

Do you provide mobile NDIS dietitian appointments in Penrith?

Yes. I provide mobile appointments across Penrith, Kingswood, Glenmore Park, Mulgoa, Cranebrook, Orchard Hills, Jordan Springs, St Marys, Werrington, Llandilo, Cambridge Park, Caddens, South Penrith, Jamisontown, Emu Heights, Emu Plains, Glenbrook, Lapstone, Leonay, Cambridge Gardens and nearby suburbs. I may be able to travel further by arrangement, and a travel cost may apply outside the usual service area.

What happens in the first appointment?

The first appointment usually explores the participant's goals, disability-related support needs, current eating pattern, health history, medications, food preferences, home routine, carers and support worker involvement. From there, I can develop practical nutrition strategies and a plan for follow-up support.

Can you provide reports for NDIS reviews?

I can provide nutrition plans and reports where they are clinically appropriate and connected to the participant's disability-related needs and goals. If a specific report format is required, please include that when you enquire.

Can you support SIL homes and group homes?

Yes. I can work with participants, families, carers, support workers, SIL homes and group homes so nutrition recommendations are clear, practical and realistic for the people preparing meals day to day.

Can you help with sensory eating, autism or ADHD?

Yes. I can support participants with sensory food preferences, food selectivity, routine building, meal structure and nutrition goals in a way that is practical and respectful of the participant's needs.

Can you help with texture-modified diets?

Yes, where dietetic support is appropriate. If swallowing safety is involved, I can translate speech pathology recommendations into practical nutrition advice, meal ideas and food strategies that support both safety and nutritional adequacy.

Is it dietitian or dietician?

In Australia, the professional spelling is dietitian. Some people search for NDIS dietician Penrith or NDIS dietician Western Sydney, but I use the recognised Australian spelling, Accredited Practising Dietitian.

How do I make an NDIS referral?

Use the online referral form and include the participant's suburb, main nutrition concerns, support needs and NDIS goals. I will then contact you to discuss the next step.
